Mount Mary Chardonnay 2021 750ml
Crafted with precision and balance, Mount Mary Chardonnay 2021 reflects a harmonious blend of richness and elegance. While influenced by Burgundian traditions, this Yarra Valley classic forgoes malolactic fermentation to preserve the regionâs natural acidity. Fermented entirely in barrel, including 30% new French oak, and matured for 11 months, it showcases both texture and complexity through lees stirring and a focused pressing regime.
The 2021 vintage opens with lifted aromas of struck match, honey, melon, and pear. The palate is beautifully weighted, revealing ripe pear, stone fruit, and red apple notes, supported by well-integrated French oak. It leans slightly riper than previous vintages while maintaining purity and length, hallmarks of Yarra Valley Chardonnay. Subtle texture and gentle complexity round out a wine of intensity, finesse, and enduring appeal.
Halliday Wine Companion - 96 Points
Hand picked, 20% whole-bunch pressed, the balance crushed and destemmed. Matured in French puncheons and barriques (30% new) for 11 months. A light, bright gold with green tinges. Seductive with its bouquet of melon, fresh fig, yellow peach, chamomile and a little lemongrass. A savoury nuance, too. On the palate, which is powerful, densely packed and structured, you'll find some grapefruit pith and hazelnut. Finishes extremely long, saline and gently grippy - Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion, 2023
